TECHNICAL INFORMATIONS ABOUT GULETS

You can realy not sum up the description of gulets with
the technical description of the ships You have to represent it like the total sum of relaxing atmosphere, wonderful scenery, excellent crew and great services.
But I will try to give you inside look in a technical way, what actualy is a gulet.

Gulets are hand build by handy craftsmen. They are an ancient design type of vessels but totaly equipped with the modern interiors which enables really comfortable voyage.

GULET SHIPS: these ships vary in size greatly. First gulets, built 30 or 40 years had an avarage size from 10 and up to max 15 meters. Then evolution took part, and gulets were getting bigger an bigger. So from 4 cabins and 15 meters, from years 1980 and 1990, gulets had mostly 6 or 8 cabins, and were built in size from 18 and up to 24 meters. Then in 1990 explotion started. So in next 10 years, size went up to 30 meters. Gulets had still mostly had 6 cabins or more. 10 cabins, 12 cabins type gulets also began to show. From 2000 to 2005, new generation of gulets came. Some of them were even built from steel. Also gulets that have only 3, 4 or 5 cabins showed up, and some people built gulets with size up to 35 meters. This is also the period, when first realy super luxury gulets were built, with prices over 35.000 EUR/week. Gulets like Kobra King, Queen of Karia, Carmina, Kobra Queen were the first one. After 2005 and till now, it seams that everybody in Turkey got crazy. Over 100 boatyards in Bodrum, Antalya, Marmaris and Istanbul, are building over 100 gulets/year. In only last 3 years, the number of Super Luxury gulets went from number 5, to number 40 or more. Now it is huge competition, who will build better, bigger, more luxorious type of gulet. Now Turkey already has a 50 METERS GULET!!!
This realy makes it possible, that there ia gulet for everybody. You can rent realy nice 20 meters gulet, with 6 cabins, for less then 250 EUR/person/week, or you can rent Super Luxury type of gulet, that will cost you over 45.000 EUR/week.

CABINS ON GULETS: all gulets that are given for charter, have showers and toilets in every cabin. Cabins are meant for sleeping only, so a bed, a toilet and a shower is all you need. But wit htbeevolution of gulets, also cabins are more and more luxorious. Cabins are, regarding luxury made in several different categories. Standard cabins, as I mentioned them below. A bit bigger cabins with air condition, or huge cabins, same as in 5 stars hotels.

DECK: for me the most important place on a gulet is deck. Out on deck, there's plenty of space for sunbathing, and to the rear of the boat, a covered dining and cushioned seating area. Most also have a spacious indoor saloon/dining area. The foredeck makes a large sun bathing area and the huge aft deck provides a shady cushioned area for relaxing and eating al fresco.

SALOON:
The saloon is usually fitted with a bar, and has also a dining facilities, even tought guests usually eat outside on deck. In most of saloons you can find a TV with DVD, and air condition.

I hope I gave you a bit of idea about what gulet type vessel is. Next week we start with what gulet cruise actualy is, and what kind of possibilites it offers.

HOW I FOUND OUT ABOUT GULETS

This is very interesting story. I am 1 out of 20 people, who is traveling together for over 15 years now. Every year we visited something new. First we started with trips in Europe. Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Wienna. After that we started to go for vacations to hotels in Italy, France, Croatia and Montenegro. The thing is, at first, we were a group of 20 people, but then year after year, some people stoped going. So after the vacations we had in Montenegro, when only 6 of us went there, and we almost stoped the tradition, my good friend came to us with a crazy idea.

He brought one old brochure, with almost no info, and told us he heard about crazy good holidays in Turkey - called Blue Cruises. That it is private charter of boats, with crew who takes care about everything...I must say we realy were not very impressed, and at that point I tought our trips will end after 9 years.

But then, after big miracle, we managed to get a group of 10 people, which was minimum to go, and we said - OKEY WHY NOT, LETS TRY.

WE realy did not know where are we going to, how this will look like, and what we can expect. And how did it end? We had low expecations, but we got THE BEST VACATIONS OF OUR LIVES!!!! After that, every year we have a group of 20 people traveling again and this is ging on now for 6 stright year, and it will not yet end so soon:-)

So it started with a very ugly looking brochure, and it is now continuing with me writting for www.goolets.com. I am already looking forward to my next cruise in September 2009!
